Apple finally announces an overhauled Mac mini

It will be available in Apple retail stores and through Apple Authorized Resellers starting Wednesday, November 7. The Mid-range model costs $699 / £679 / AU$1,049 and the high-end Mac mini 2014 costs $999 / $949 / $1,499. The base model Core i3/8 GB RAM/129 GB PCIe SSD model starts at USA $799, which is a pretty steep price for what is now a pretty basic desktop. Every Mac Mini now comes with 4 cores, as well as new 6 core variants. It comes with quad- and 6-core 8th-generation Intel Core processors with Turbo Boost Speeds up to 4.6GHz and Intel UHD graphics.

You can also string multiple Mac Minis together for even faster processing, even use them as the basis for a server centre. Unlike the new MacBook Air, the new Mac Mini comes with various connectivity options including Thunderbolt 3, Ethernet, HDMI, USB-A, audio port and more.

Apple announced a new Mac mini desktop at its event today, detailing an updated model that packs more performance and features into the same chassis size. Again the Apple T2 Security Chip makes an appearance to provide a "secure enclave", always-on Siri ready to respond, and on-the-fly data encryption - and again we have Touch ID integration. With the ports, the Mac mini supports up to 4K and 5K Thunderbolt displays.

Configurations start from Intel's 8th Generation quad-core Core i3 processors and go up to six-core Core i7 chips running at 3.2 GHz/4.6 GHz.

We're still awaiting United Kingdom prices but expect the Mac Mini to be available at the same time as in the US. It's also made of 100% recyclable aluminum and comes in a new cool Space Gray finish.

Should I buy a Mac mini 2018?

In all, the upgrades delver up to 5x processing power, and up to 60 per cent faster graphics.

Hello, old friend. It's been a long time.

The Mac mini 2018 is packed with modern hardware that makes it a brilliant mini computer, so if you've been tempted to pick up the tiny Mac, the Mac mini 2018 is definitely worth the money.
