Ted Cruz's Democratic challenger Beto O'Rourke raised more than $38 million in the third quarter - all from individual contributions - shattering the previous quarterly record for a Senate race. Cruz raked in $12 million in the third quarter, according to the Texas Tribute, an impressive number, but one that looks paltry compared to what O'Rourke raked in.

"You just raised a record-breaking $38.1 million in three months".

Despite the monetary boost, O'Rourke remains the underdog in recent polls. O'Rourke's campaign says a majority of it has come from Texas.

"The people of Texas in all 254 counties are proving that when we reject PACs and come together not as Republicans or Democrats but as Texans and Americans, there's no stopping us", O'Rourke said in a statement released by his campaign Friday. Ted Cruz (R-TX), will have an insane amount of cash at his disposal in the campaign's closing weeks. The new Quinnipiac Poll gives the Republican a nine-point lead with less than a month before election day, while the latest New York Times poll has Cruz up by 8.

O'Rourke's campaign shared limited information from the third-quarter fundraising report, which will be filed with the Federal Election Commission and made public on Monday.

O'Rourke, the upstart Democrat in the race who has garnered a national profile through savvy media manipulation and by cultivating a young-gun image, went viral over the internet after delivering a speech at a campaign event in the summer defending athletes who kneel during the national anthem to protest racial inequality.
