Boston mob boss Whitey Bulger killed in West Virginia prison

Bulger had been moved between prisons in Florida, Oklahoma and West Virginia in the past week. Hank Brennan, Bulger's attorney, told BuzzFeed News, he couldn't "confirm or deny it at this point". The jury found him culpable for 11 killings from 1973 through 1985.

Sources told WBZ-TV I-Team chief correspondent Cheryl Fiandaca that Bulger was killed. His younger brother, William Bulger, became one of the most powerful politicians in MA, leading the state Senate for 17 years. He was serving a life sentence for 11 murders. He reportedly was scrutinized for his relationship with a female psychologist.

The report of Bulger's death came about an hour after the WVNews website reported that a prisoner was slain overnight inside the Hazleton federal penitentiary in Bruceton Mills.

Bulger, nicknamed "Whitey" for his bright platinum hair, grew up in a gritty South Boston housing project and became known as one of the most ruthless gangsters in Boston.

And, from 1975 to 1990, "unbeknownst to even his closest associates, Bulger was an Federal Bureau of Investigation informant". He was finally located after a tip to a tabloid television program led agents to the Santa Monica, Calif. apartment where he was living with a long time girlfriend.

His legend only grew as Bulger evaded arrest after his disappearance, with endless reported sightings around the USA and the world.

Most recently, he was portrayed by Johnny Depp in the 2015 movie Black Mass, which documented his life story as a gangster and longtime Federal Bureau of Investigation informant.

In June 2012, Greig was sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to harbor a fugitive, identity fraud, and conspiracy to commit identity fraud.

In April 2016, she was sentenced to an additional 21-months in prison for refusing to testify about whether other people aided them when they fled Boston.
