Around the time of the incident, a teenage girl was taken from the train station to the hospital with injuries, police spokesman Christoph Schulte said.

A man on Monday took a woman hostage at a pharmacy in Cologne's central railway station. Police said there was no immediate suspicion of a link to terrorism.

Cologne's central station itself is a major interchange for trains across Germany and Western Europe.

Police forces stand at the Cologne, western Germany, main station Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, after they have closed parts of the station because of a hostage situation.

Local media reported shots being fired inside the station, something which a police spokesperson later denied.

But the Patriots responded with a pass to Rob Gronkowski that set up the game-wining field goal. They've given up the second-most yards per game and the fourth-most to quarterbacks.

Police on Twitter told people to avoid the train station.

"A female hostage has been lightly wounded and is being cared for", they added, calling on the public to keep their distance from the area.

It is not yet known if the hostage-taker is armed, but are in contact with him.

There was a full evacuation of the station, one of Germany's biggest transport hubs.

Deutsche Bahn cancelled or delayed train services in Cologne during the stand-off. "We need to find out what he wants, what his demands are and whether he carries a weapon".
