Blackpool police posted on its Facebook page an image of a man wanted in the theft from a restaurant last Saturday as they are seeking help from the public to identify him.

Facebook users quickly commented that the man appears to be a spitting image of David Schwimmer, who played the anxiety-stricken Ross on TV sitcom "Friends".

"When it hasn't been your day, week, month or even your year".

By early Wednesday the Facebook post had gained 97,000 comments and been shared almost 65,000 times in just under 21 hours.

While Blackpool Police appreciate netizens' enthusiasm, they stressed that Schwimmer has nothing to do with the crime committed.

In less than 24-hours, the post by the English police department had more than 97,000 comments.

"We're so sorry it has to be this way", the comment read. However, the post received an unexpected response from people, who wondered if the man was Ross Geller from the famous sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S. "A crate of cans from the shop yes yes yes", one person wrote, paraphrasing the character. "He is known to have studied Karate and we believe he has mastered the art of Unagi, the state of total awareness", they added, nodding to an episode in which Ross claims to be a self-defense expert.

Another user said: 'So noone told you life was gonna be this way Your job's a joke, you're broke Your love life's DOA It's like you're always stuck in second gear And before you know it you're in SPAR stealing some beer'.

They also confirmed that Schwimmer is not a suspect, because he was in the USA at the time of the crime.
