The pregnant Duchess of Sussex has had her schedule cut back during her first royal tour, after a hectic start to her visit to Australia and the South Pacific with husband Prince Harry.

A thus-far joyous debut royal tour by the couple, buoyed by news that they are expecting their first baby, turned solemn as the Duke of Sussex opened a long-awaited extension to the Anzac Memorial in downtown Sydney's Hyde Park on Saturday morning.

Duchess Meghan will be cutting back on several engagements on the couple's grueling 16-day Royal Tour.

"If it has been a very late night due to unforeseen circumstances, we have to adjust for that".

However, Meghan took a break from the Invictus Games events on Sunday morning though Harry watched a cycling competition.

The royal couple have had a grueling schedule since arriving in Australia on Monday, visiting Sydney, Melbourne and the regional town of Dubbo, as well as opening the Olympic-style Invictus Games for disabled and wounded soldiers.

The former actress will accompany Prince Harry to Fraser Island, the world's largest sand island, but she may alter her schedule while there given the hard terrain.
