Jaguar's first sports vehicle, the XK 120, debuted in 1948, right in the midst of Britain's postwar recovery efforts. "In creating the Chequered Flag we've focused on details which enhance F-Type's presence and promise of performance-and in doing so, made a fitting celebration of 70 years of attractive, fast Jaguar sports cars".

Based on the existing R-Dynamic trim level and available on both coupé and convertible variants of the F-Type R, the Chequered Flag package features a number of racing-inspired motifs. And it's celebrating that legacy with this special-edition F-Type.

The cabin gets Ebony Windsor leather upholstery, Ebony Suedecloth headlining and steering wheel, brushed aluminium centre console trim and chequered flag badging on the headrests, steering wheel and tread plates.

The auto comes with a Windsor Leather interior with embossed Performance Seats, Ebony Suedecloth headlining, and steering wheel with a red center top marker. Jag offers the special edition in Caldera Red, Fuji White, and Carpathian Grey with a black contrast roof. There are additional red and white accents throughout the rest of the auto.

Power comes from the choice of a 221kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo four, a 250kW/450Nm 3.0-litre supercharged V6, or a 280kW/460Nm 3.0-litre supercharged V6.

All engines are matched to an eight-speed transmission with drive delivered to the rear wheels, or in the case of the 280 kW models, all four corners. The dampers have also been tuned to be more refined and improve ride comfort at low speed, taking cues from the F-Type SVR and reducing damping by 24 per cent.

Pricing and availability have not been announced. The R has also adopted the SVR's rear upper ball joint, and gets a modified rear knuckle and upper control arm for enhanced "capability and system robustness".
