McConnell Thinks Talking About Repealing Obamacare Helps the GOP in the Midterms

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) told reporters Wednesday that he didn't think Congress would "end up" shutting down the government over funding for the border wall, a break from comments he made earlier this week when he wouldn't rule it out.

Republicans could try again to repeal Obamacare if they win enough seats in US elections next month, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said on Wednesday, calling a failed 2017 push to repeal the healthcare law a "disappointment".

McConnell's remarks came a day after a Treasury Department report said the budget deficit soared 17 percent from last year to $779 billion in President Donald Trump's first full fiscal year in office, the highest since 2012.

McConnell blames Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security for the rising deficit, even though the tax cut that passed in 2017 is estimated to add $1 trillion to the national debt.

Do you think we'll see him fight Khabib Nurmagomedov down the road? "Let this guy enjoy his win and then we'll figure that out.". He won the fight via fourth-round submission, and then exited the Octagon to confront McGregor's corner.

Democrats aren't buying it. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said in a statement, "Under the GOP's twisted agenda, we can afford tax cuts for billionaires, but not the benefits our seniors have earned".

Now, the Senate Majority Leader believes the solution is in cutting some of the nation's most popular programs. Because cutting Social Security and Medicare are politically toxic, he added, it will be "very hard to do entitlement reform, and we're talking about Medicare, Social Security, and Medicaid", while Republicans run everything.

McConnell blamed the recent run-up in the deficit on Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, but there haven't been policy changes in those programs to explain the major increase in the debt in the past two years.
