No Direct Accusations Against Vladimir Putin By Donald Trump

China's ambassador to America says the Trump administration is 'very confusing'

President Donald Trump threatened to impose another round of tariffs on China and warned that Chinese meddling in USA politics is a "bigger problem" than Russian involvement in the 2016 election.

"This is very clear", Ambassador Cui Tiankai told the "Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace" programme, apparently referring to a US destroyer sailing near islands claimed by China in the South China Sea on September 30. "But [I] will tell you, I have no intention of doing that", he said.

"Honestly, I've been talking to ambassadors of other countries in Washington, D.C., and this is also part of their problem".

"(Diplomats) don't know who is the final decision maker. Of course, presumably, the president will take the final decision, but who is playing what role?

"I was very honoured to be present at the meetings between the two presidents, both at Mar-a-Lago in April past year, and in Beijing last November", Cui said in the Fox News interview taped on Friday.

U.S. PRESIDENT TRUMP: "Oh sure, absolutely".

"The US trade deficit with China would probably be narrower if the US allowed sales of high-tech products to China". Over the last six month, the U.S. has imposed additional tariff on import of more than $ 250 billion products.

Cui was also asked about Vice President Mike Pence's recent speech on U.S.

"It is a full-frontal assault by the United States on China", said Elizabeth Economy, director for Asia studies at the Council on Foreign Relations.

Zoo Director Dennis Kelly (R) talks to Chinese Ambassador Cui Tiankai (L) as they wait for the departure of Giant panda Bao Bao at the Smithsonian's National Zoo February 21, 2017 in Washington, DC.

Mr Cui replied on Fox that Chinese media were "just learning from American media to use all these means to buy commercial pages from newspapers", adding: "This is a normal practice for all the media".

"But I rely on them, it's not in our country", he added.

China's state-run newspapers are typically not known to run advertising supplements from USA media organizations.

The ambassador also described the presence of United States warships in the South China Seas as being "on the offensive" after a destroyer nearly collided with an aggressive Chinese military vessel earlier this month.

At the same meetings, Chinese officials received an unusual gesture of support when Mexico's former president Ernesto Zedillo counseled them to follow the example set by Mexico and Canada during their recent re-negotiations with the US on the North American Free Trade Agreement. "It would be hard to imagine that one-fifth of the global population could develop and not prosper, not by relying mainly on their own efforts but by stealing or forcing some transfer of technology from others".

In an exclusive interview on Fox News Sunday, Tiankai insisted that the very name of the location where said incident took place clearly shows whose vessel was "on the offensive" and who was "on the defensive".
