Panthers' Reid confronts Eagles' Jenkins over protests, coalition

Eric Reid and Malcolm Jenkins have had very public disagreements about their different approaches to protesting police brutality and systematic oppression in this country, and those disagreements appeared to spill over onto the field before the Panthers-Eagles game on Sunday.

Before kickoff, he got into a heated confrontation with Philadelphia safety Malcolm Jenkins, apparently because he feels Jenkins sold out the protest movement started by Colin Kaepernick.

Before we get into that, some context: Jenkins co-founded the Players Coalition, a group that used to include Reid, which is centered around furthering the cause of social justice.

Reid also wasn't happy Kaepernick was excluded from meetings on the issue.

The Panthers safety wasn't done there, though.

Jenkins past year co-founded the Players Coalition, a non-profit organisation governed by 12 National Football League players.

Unnamed Australia and Pakistan players were also accused by the broadcaster in a documentary broadcast on Sunday. Most of these matches involved instances of multiple fixing, taking the count to 26 fixes in the 15 matches.

As for Reid's behavior, Rivera says he handled himself the way he needed to, but they also talked about it afterward.

These two teams have the potential to meet in the playoffs, too, so this may not be the last of Reid's fireworks with Philly.

After the NFL agreed to donate almost $90 million to causes the coalition considered important, Jenkins stopped raising a fist of protest during the national anthem. "I look around the league and I'm proud of guys that are active in their communities, that are using their voice as a platform like never before - including Colin and including Eric".

"We believe a lot of players should have stepped up for Colin", Reid, 26, said after the game.

"He co-opted with the movement that was started by Colin to get his organization started", he said after the game. "It's cowardly. He sold us out".

"Eric Reid! Enough said!" he wrote on Twitter. I think he deserves to have a job in this league, I'm glad that he does have one.
