Force India team principal Otmar Szafnauer said Perez had established himself as "one of the most talented and consistent drivers on the Formula One grid".

'He gives us valuable stability going forward and is a huge asset to the team.

Perez, who joined Force India in 2014 after a hard year with McLaren following two seasons with Sauber, has had five podium finishes with the team including third in Azerbaijan last April.

"Force India has been my home since 2014 and has allowed me to grow as a driver and show my skills on track". He has five podium finishes over his career with his best finish this season a third place at Azerbaijan.

Perez said: "I think the level of investment, where the team is going to start next season, the development rate, we have big expectations".

Perez is expected to be joined at Force India by current Williams racer Lance Stroll, whose father Lawrence led the group of investors that acquired the outfit, though no news has yet been communicated.

The Mexican was heavily involved in the team's plunge into administration over F1s summer break in 2018 - action taken by his management company effectively prompted the move, but Perez later revealed he had been asked to do so by senior management in order to protect jobs.

"Formula One is changing, as are we as a team, and we're looking forward to introducing Coca-Cola to the potential that our team and fantastic, global sport represents". He now sits in a tie for seventh place in the driver standings.
