Saudi Prosecutor In Khashoggi Murder Case Meets Istanbul Chief Prosecutor

Journalist Jamal Khashoggi, a contributor to "The Washington Post", who vanished on 2 October 2018 during a visit to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Saudi Attorney General Saud al-Mujeb met with Fidan at the courthouse in Istanbul on Monday, according to Turkey's state Anadolu news agency, which provided no more details.

Anadolu said the Saudi prosecutor would inspect the Saudi consulate in Istanbul where Khashoggi was killed almost four weeks ago.

U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said Sunday that Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir had vowed Riyadh would conduct a "full" investigation.

Gruesome reports in the Turkish media have alleged he was killed and dismembered by a team sent from Saudi Arabia to silence him.

The case has brought near unprecedented worldwide scrutiny on Saudi Arabia, which is seeking to draw a line under the crisis after offering a series of differing narratives in the weeks following Khashoggi's murder. Erdogan said on Saturday the extradition request was being relayed to Saudi Arabia via Turkey's Justice Ministry.

Smith's letter also offered a glimpse of how Microsoft is dealing internally with a broader tension in the tech community over the issue.

The Saudi officials who killed journalist Jamal Khashoggi in their Istanbul consulate must reveal the location of his body, Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday in remarks that were sharply critical of the kingdom's handling of the case. Their discussion, Mattis said, underscored "the need for transparency, a full and complete investigation". "He [Jubeir] said we need to know what happened and it was very collaborative, in agreement", Mattis said.

Last night a close friend of Mr Khashoggi revealed that he was about to obtain "documentary evidence" proving clams that Saudi Arabia had used chemical weapons in its proxy war in Yemen.

"Certainly Turkey with the evidence that they have compiled will ensure that there is more than one review of what is going on there and I am certain the investigation will include the evidence that Turkey has put forward so far", Mattis said.

As public uproar mounted, Saudi Arabia's leadership arrested 18 suspects, fired five top officials and announced a reorganization of the nation's intelligence operations.

Riyadh has rejected the request.

Asked at a news conference in Prague how a Saudi government investigation could get to the bottom of whether the crown prince was involved in ordering the killing, Mattis emphasized that evidence Turkish authorities have gathered would also be taken into account.
