Small or small, boy? Pizzas targeted in war on childhood obesity

While the limits would not be mandatory under current plans, which are part of a package aimed at reducing childhood obesity, the government has warned it would likely legislate if businesses failed to fall into line, with public health minister Steve Brine declaring the state was "willing to do whatever it takes to keep children healthy and well in this country".

Pizzas in the United Kingdom must shrink or lose their toppings under the government's newly proposed "calorie caps" on thousands of popular foods sold in restaurants and supermarkets to tackle the growing obesity crisis, a media report said Friday.

Health officials want chefs to limit their pies to 695 calories and have stipulated that pizzas should not contain more than 928 calories - a limit which would be breached by all but four of the classic pizzas on the menu at Pizza Express. Other foods would also have calorie caps.

The move comes as new figures show rates of severe obesity among children have risen by more than a third in just over a decade.

"It was encouraging to see many companies in the room, especially with the noticeable increase in engagement from the out of home sector", said PHE chief nutritionist Dr Alison Tedstone.

Jason LittleJohn took the video and posted it online. "You just see her going to the store and back", Littlejohn said of Klein. Littlejohn told Sputnik on Friday that he was inside the store when Klein made a decision to unleash all hell.

She added: "We hope to see early commitment from the food industry - including the people who make, sell and deliver our food - translated into real action, sooner rather than later".

The NCMP report found that more boys than girls are obese.

The figures also clearly show that more than double the amount of children from the least deprived areas are classified as obese in the most deprived areas.

Dr Max Davie, the officer for health promotion for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, praised ministers for setting out plans to tackle childhood obesity by, for example, banning junk food advertisements on television before the 9pm watershed. He pointed to the fact that as a result of the tax on sugary drinks that began UK-wide in April, sugar levels in many products had been cut and money from the levy was being used to fund school sports and breakfast clubs.

They follow the government plan to halve rates of childhood obesity by 2030.
