Oklahoma has made a major coaching move, as head coach Lincoln Riley has reportedly chose to fire longtime defensive coordinator Mike Stoops, the brother of former OU head coach Bob Stoops. News first of Stoops' departure first surfaced on Sunday night with multiple outlets reporting Stoops was either fired or resigning from his post.

The move comes after No. 9 Texas defeated Oklahoma 48-45 on Saturday in the Red River Showdown.

Oklahoma dropped to 5-1 on the season with the loss to Texas on Saturday. That includes a touchdown-allowed rate of 85.7 percent, which ranks 124th in the country, tied with the likes of Rice and UAB. Venables took over as the sole defensive coordinator until he left for Clemson in early 2012, shortly after it was announced that Stoops was returning to his brother's staff. With the 93 total points scored in the game, it was both an exciting and fast paced outing that few fans probably could've expected. The story hasn't been any different in 2018, as the Sooners have allowed 27.3 points per game overall and 34 points per game against winning teams.

The Argentine won possession and played a one-two with Partey before arrowing the ball home in the 74th. There are many people waiting for me and want to go for me. "It's part of the game".

This was Riley's first major break with the Bob Stoops era after taking over for Stoops as the head coach in the summer of 2017.

Mike Stoops was also at Oklahoma from 1999-2003, as assistant head coach and co-defensive coordinator. Oklahoma is off this weekend, but plays at TCU on October 20.
