Earlier this year, Pelosi said she meant to be the Democrats' leader in the House of Representatives for as long as President Donald Trump was in office.

She continued: "A number of emails referenced in today's congressional letter are taken out of context and refer to the project's funding approach, not the location decision".

"After he was sworn in as president ... he reportedly became "dead opposed" to the government selling the property, which would have allowed commercial developers to compete directly with the Trump Hotel", the Democrats' letter says.

After suggesting to Congress that the president had no role in the discussions during a House Appropriations Committee hearing in April, Murphy was later shown to have attended two meetings at the White House in January on the relocation plan, including one meeting with Trump in the Oval Office, where the plans were discussed, the report said.

Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., is among the Democrats who signed the letter to the GSA.

In a letter to the General Services Administration, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings of Baltimore and other Democrats wrote Trump has a "clear conflict of interest on this matter".

Back in 2013, Trump said he'd be interested in acquiring the land the FBI building sits on should the bureau move out of Washington.

At issue is the FBI's J. Edgar Hoover headquarters building, with an exterior familiar to millions from TV and movies - but which is crumbling and considered obsolete.

That would have freed up the old site on Pennsylvania Avenue, which Trump and his daughter Ivanka had eyed for potential development following their Trump hotel at the Old Post Office Pavilion.

In August, the GSA said in response to that report that its cost estimates were "accurate, transparent" and provided a full representation of costs of the projects.

This revelation provides further problems for GSA Administrator Emily Murphy.

At a recent event, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) predicted a blue "tsunami" on November 6, placing Democrats in control of the House. "Do you think I would make myself a lame duck right here over this double-espresso?" the San Francisco Democrat said Thursday in a downtown Miami cafe, with a raised eyebrow and a laugh.

"There was a lot of relief that at least in this hemisphere with the Mexicans and the Canadians we seem to have reached a settlement", he said.

Now, Cummings and the Democrats say they want more documents and information from earlier in the administration, including from before the announcement abandoning the FBI's prospective move to Prince George's County and "documents and communications between Trump Organization and GSA officials" from before Trump was elected.
