Even one of the Civil War general's descendents, the reverent Rob Lee, took to Twitter to slam the president for supposedly supporting his Confederate ancestor.

Democrat Aftab Pureval, who is challenging incumbent Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH) in Ohio's first congressional district, appeared alongside civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) on Sunday and blasted Trump for praising Lee, and Chabot for not challenging the president.

"So Robert E. Lee was a great general and Abraham Lincoln developed a phobia, he couldn't beat Robert E. Lee", Trump told the crowd "He was going crazy.but Robert E. Lee was winning battle after battle after battle and Abraham Lincoln came home and he said 'I can't beat Robert E. Lee".

"Lincoln had nearly developed a phobia because he was having a hard time with a true great fighter and a great general, Robert E. Lee", Trump said just moments later. Was actually a shoutout to warrior Grant and the great state in which he was born. SPLC wrote, "President Trump's praise of Robert E. Lee is the kind of revisionist history that has kept Jim Crow alive in the South for more than 150 years".

Saudi Arabia denies allegations regarding murder of Khashoggi: interior minister
The US president issued his firmest statement yet over the disappearance of Washington Post contributor Jamal Khashoggi . There has been no official reaction in the Arab world to the possible murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Turkey.

"And he went in and knocked the hell out of everyone", Trump said of Grant. He's got a drinking problem.' And Lincoln said, 'I don't care what problem he has, you guys aren't winning.' And his name was Grant. CNN had a video that said: "Trump: 'Robert E. Lee was a great general.'" On MSNBC it was the same: "President Trump Praises Robert E. Lee During Campaign-Style Rally". Trump said that Abraham Lincoln was struggling because he couldn't find anyone who could defeat Robert E Lee. Though Trump has supported preserving statues commemorating Confederate leaders, including Lee, Twitter users were quick to point out that the president's speech Friday focused on Grant's victory over Lee. "It was Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, not Gen. Robert E. Lee". But he made the statement in the context of talking about how hard it was for President Abraham Lincoln to defeat him.

After Trump called out NBC News, the network posted a correction. "He drank a little bit too much", Trump said to laughter.

Other news outlets also described the president's comments as "praising" Lee.

News did not include Trump's comments in full when it claimed Trump was calling Lee "incredible". The original, incorrect tweet was left intact. "Robert E. Lee fought for the continued enslavement of black bodies".
