Celtics' Brad Stevens says Gordon Hayward will be a 'little limited early'

Celtics' Brad Stevens says Gordon Hayward will be a 'little limited early'

Irving is entering his second year with the Celtics and will play in the season opener against the Philadelphia 76ers tonight.

The Celtics also got meaningful contributions from their bench, as Marcus Morris finished with 16 points in a 7-for-12 night shooting from the floor, and hauled in 10 rebounds by the night's end.

In a rematch of last season's second-round playoff matchup, the Boston Celtics welcomed the Philadelphia 76ers to the TD Garden. The Warriors ranked 19th in the league in rebounding rate last season (49.7 per cent) and finishing possessions by securing the board has been a weak point for them over the years. For now, let's talk about how Jayson Tatum's 23-point, nine-rebound night probably wasn't an anomaly, and how games like that will afford the Celtics the luxury of bringing along Hayward at whichever pace they'd like.

Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward both returned to the court after injuries affected them last season.

Hayward received a loud ovation from the sellout crowd prior to his first home game in a Celtics' uniform.

If the Golden State Warriors had one weakness coming into the season, it was at centre, the only position where they don't feature an All-Star - at least until DeMarcus Cousins returns. In the 18 games leading into this one, Philly shot 42.4 percent and averaged 97.9 points.

"It was so good to be out there, such a blessing that I was able to play basketball again", Hayward said in a post-game interview with TNT.

The NBA is finally back and even though there's still a lot of games ahead of us, most fans are already looking forward to the playoffs, especially considering how much things have changed throughout the offseason. The Sixers need to grow (and potentially add a few pieces) before they're viable opponents to Boston's NBA Finals hunt.

He admitted to having flashbacks about what happened on opening night last season in Cleveland, when he was injured going up for a lob pass against the Cavaliers in the opening minutes. Most people viewed the win as a testament to Boston's depth, since they still won with Kyrie Irving only shot 2-for-14 from the field. The Sixers also committed 11 first-half turnovers that led to 10 Celtics' points.

The Celtics are loaded with young talents to go along with Horford, Irving and Hayward, and look like a dynasty in the making thanks to Brad Steven's top-tier defensive system. "It's my second year. You can't", Stevens said back in May. "I was just happy to get back on the floor".
