Barack Obama Pleads For Gun Control After The Pittsburgh Synagogue Shooting

Bowers shot his victims with an AR-15, used in numerous nation's mass shootings, and three handguns, all of which he owned legally and had a license to carry, according to a law enforcement official who wasn't authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation, and who spoke Sunday on the condition of anonymity.

On Twitter, Trump said, "All of America is in mourning over the mass murder of Jewish Americans at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh".

Earlier in the day the President said the fatalities might have been averted if there were armed guards inside the synagogue. Written by 11 members of the Pittsburgh affiliate of Bend the Arc, a national organization for progressive Jews focused on social justice, the letter asks that the president not visit the grieving city until he disavows white nationalism and stop targeting minorities. "We've been here 154 years and you can cut off some branches, but the tree will continue to grow, and we will be back". "I'm doing it here today".

Mr Hertzman, who used to worship at the synagogue attacked and knew two of the dead, said: "We've certainly seen that anti-Semitism is on the rise across the US". The rabbi said that he is welcome, as well.

"As Jews, anti-racist activists and residents of Ottawa, we want to send the message that hate crimes against Jews do not exist in isolation from the violent rise of white supremacy around the globe", co-organizers Genevieve Nevin and Darrah Teitel wrote.

The organizers said in a statement that the event would be both an act of mourning and a demonstration against acts of racism and bigotry around the world. We condemn all acts of violence and hate and yet again, call on our nation and public officials to confront the plague of gun violence.

Ivanka Trump converted to Judaism when she married Jared Kushner.

"The Muslim-American community extends its hands to help the shooting victims, whether it is the injured victims or the Jewish families who have lost loved ones", the crowdfunding site says. "Our hearts break for the victims, their families, and the entire Jewish community". The president is the grandfather of several Jewish grandchildren. "His daughter is a Jewish-American and his son-in-law is a descendant of Holocaust survivors".

Germany election: Further blow for Merkel in Hesse
It represented the worst election result since 1950, and a loss of its absolute majority for only the second time since 1962. The pro-business Free Democrats were seen winning above 7% and the Left Party around 6.5%.

The man accused in the Pittsburgh synagogue massacre appeared briefly in federal court in a wheelchair and handcuffs Monday to face charges he killed 11 people in what is believed to be the deadliest attack on Jews in USA history.

Federal prosecutors charged Bowers late on Saturday with 29 criminal counts including violating US civil rights laws. "When people do this, they should get the death penalty".

Bowers was also charged under state law with criminal homicide, aggravated assault and ethnic intimidation.

Authorities are working to piece together Bowers' background and movements before he allegedly entered the synagogue about 10 miles from downtown Pittsburgh on Saturday morning. This disgusting act may have happened in Pittsburgh, but it was an attack on the entire Jewish community.

The gunman, who appears in court on Monday, was an avowed antisemite who posted about his hatred of Jews online prior to the shooting.

Bowers killed eight men and three women before a police tactical team shot him, authorities said.

According to an affidavit, he told police while receiving medical treatment that "he wanted all Jews to die and also that they [Jews] were committing genocide to his people".

"[JSA Vice President of Outreach Courtney Cooperman] was probably the first person I called ... and pretty quickly, Courtney and I went to plan something", he said.
