A vehicle plowed into a crowd of children outside a primary school in northeastern China on Thursday, killing five people and injuring 18, a local government spokesman said.

The horrific crash took place at around 12:30pm local time near the entrance of the children's school in Huludao, in the southwestern region of Liaoning.

Of the nineteen that were injured, sixteen were children.

The cause was under investigation, according to the reports. A woman who answered the phone at Huludao police headquarters said they could not reveal anything yet.

Footage posted on the Chinese microblogging website Weibo shows a auto driving onto the opposite lane and ramming the children who were trying to cross the road.

While Australia are the early favourites, Poulter has plenty of World Cup experience and a superb record in team events. And they both wonder what effect a win in the World Cup of Golf would have on the sport in India.

The daily's website carried pictures of several people lying on the road and police detaining the driver.

China has seen an increased amount of deliberate attacks against children over the last few years.

In April, at least seven students were stabbed to death and 10 more injured in a knife attack outside a school in northern China.

In September, a driver of an SUV vehicle deliberately crashed into crowds at a busy public square in central China's Hunan province, killing 11 people and injuring 44 others.

The most common motivations are identified as mental illness, alienation from society or a desire to settle scores.
