Given that Vince Gilligan has been busy with Breaking Bad prequel series Better Call Saul, fans of the original show probably weren't expecting him to be cooking up a movie based on the idea.

It is through the New Mexico Film Office that word of the secret project made it to the Albuquerque Journal. Nobody's sure if it's a prequel, a continuation of Aaron Paul's narrative or something completely parallel and only tangentially related.

The New Mexico Film Office has remained tight-lipped when questioned about the project and is sticking to the "Greenbrier" project name.

The Journal also reports that the project now has the working title Greenbriar - though that could just be a holding name.

The plot - a kidnapped man on a quest for freedom - sounds an bad lot like Jesse (Aaron Paul) in the final season, when he was kidnapped by Neo Nazis. Paul will return to the role that made him an Emmy victor.

It's been more than five years since Breaking Bad's series finale but its universe still has plenty of stories to tell.

Liverpool lose their mojo to make Champions League last 16 a struggle
Adam Lallana is certain Liverpool will react to the disappointment of defeat to Red Star Belgrade in the right way. Travelling to play the relative underdogs, the Merseyside club were expected to get a win.

Gilligan will write, executive produce and possibly direct the project.

Fans of AMC's hit show Breaking Bad were sent into a frenzy after the announcement that the series would be getting the movie treatment, with creator Vince Gilligan now working on a film. While Bryan Cranston's work is tremendous, it's time to let Walt rest. Breaking Bad first premiered on AMC in January 2008 and followed protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a milquetoast high school chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife, teenage son who has cerebral palsy and a new baby girl.

My theory is that the movie will wrap Breaking Bad and its spinoff Better Call Saul together and show us where the characters are now. I don't know. I will say that when Better Call Saul was announced, I had nearly the same thought: do we need to see the backstory of Saul Goodman?

Aaron Paul - Jesse Pinkman - has joined the cast of Westworld which has yet to begin production on the third season.

Production is set to being in Albuquerque in mid November and continue until early February, the Journal says.
