The 29-year-old, who was the youngest Congresswoman ever elected, was mistaken for an intern her first day and Thursday, her second day, was criticized over her attire through a tweet that was later deleted. Even after she won, Ocasio-Cortez has proven even more relatable, admitting that she now can't afford to move to D.C. because her government salary won't officially kick in for months. "Those little things are very real".

Ocasio-Cortez did have the final word on the issue and expressed a sad truth, that she would be judged about her clothing regardless of what she wears.

A picture of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wearing a suit prompted waves of controversy online on Thursday.

The fact that Ocasio-Cortez comes from a working-class family in the Bronx and has previously worked in a restaurant to make ends meet has made her somewhat of a hero among many left-wing Millennials, who want to see more elected officials who understand the struggles of hustling to make do in today's economy.

"Girl. Noun. A female child, from birth to full growth", Dictionary.com wrote in a tweet. "E.g".

The #OurTime project is a grassroots candidate recruitment effort asking Democrats and progressives around the country to submit nominees for both potential candidates and districts where an Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez-style campaign might succeed.

The 36-year-old Cruz from NY was the last edition's bronze medallist besides winning the same colour of medal in 2012 also. Using all her experience, the Manipuri said that she opted for a cautious start.

Fox News' Geraldo Rivera came to her defense, too. "Lay off or I'll start calling you out by name".

Others mocked the tweet and posted photos of others wearing numerous clothing that were sent from a "hill staffer".

Scarry later tried to walk it back.

"If I walk in with my best sale-rack clothes, they laugh and take a picture of my backside".

Scarry responded to all the criticism surrounding his tweet by deleting it and telling people it was misinterpreted, which is the Twitter version of making someone uncomfortable in the workplace and saying, "Can't you take a joke?" Dark hates light - that's why you tune it out. "Oh, does @eScarry think he can delete his misogyny without an apology?" she tweeted. "Shine bright & keep it pushing". "The tweet was taken as something else, so I've deleted it!"
