In Georgia, the race for governor between Democrat Stacey Abrams - who is vying to be the first black woman governor in the USA - and Republican Brian Kemp remains too close to call.

Once you add those to the handful of women Senators and Governors who did not have to face the electorate in these midterms (as only some positions were contested), the proportion of women now in power goes up to around 22 per cent.

Idaho gubernatorial candidate Paulette Jordan also lost her race to become the country's first Native American governor. Others, like Massachusetts' Ayanna Pressley, were political veterans.

Female candidates won congressional seats and governorships in record numbers Tuesday night.

A former National Teacher of the Year, Jahana Hayes, will become Connecticut's first black woman in Congress. Newcomer Ayanna Pressley of MA who ousted a 10-term incumbent in the primary will become the first black congresswoman from MA. At least 95 women won seats in the House Wednesday morning, breaking a previous record of 84 women, NBC news reported. "The first role of women as military flyers was during World War II as Women Airforce Service Pilots, an organization disbanded after the war", Colonel McSally said.

Over the course of history, there have been a number of men elected to Congress in their 20s, but not women.

Pressley said, "Now, listen, I know for a fact none of us ran to make history, we ran to make change".

A ‘Breaking Bad’ Movie Is Coming & Might Be Called ‘Greenbrier’
The Journal also reports that the project now has the working title Greenbriar - though that could just be a holding name. It's been more than five years since Breaking Bad's series finale but its universe still has plenty of stories to tell.

The first black woman elected to represent MA in Congress is Boston City Council member Ayanna Pressley, who faced no Republican on Tuesday. Several were first-time candidates.

"The more Americans who vote, the more our elected leaders look like America", said former president Barack Obama, praising the record number of women, a surge in minority lawmakers and record voter turnout.

There are more women in office now than ever before, and this is only the beginning.

In her campaign platform, Ocasio-Cortez promotes universal job guarantees, fully funded public schools and universities, paid family and sick leave and housing as a human right.

Also a Native American, Davids will join Debra Haaland of New Mexico in becoming the first Native American women in Congress.

Chris Pappas just became the first openly gay person to represent the people of New Hampshire. Wallace also suggested Ingraham was being hypocritical, saying that if she gives Republicans credit for keeping the Senate, she must also give the Democrats credit for flipping the House. Women's issues are the economy, their education, their gun control.

Much has been made of 2018's "year of the woman" status, as Democrats carried female voters by 19 points last night, exploiting a (+15) gender gap to win back the House and pick up a number of governorships.
