John Chau travelled alone to the remote North Sentinel Island

The American national was killed in North Sentinel Island in Andamans.

Also called the Sentineli or North Sentinel Islanders, they are known to be hunters and gatherers who survive through fishing, hunting and collecting wild plants. Two days later he went well prepared. "He was attacked by arrows but he continued walking".

His body, spotted the following day by the fishermen on their return, has not yet been retrieved, the official added, although the fishermen who took him there have been arrested.

According to NDTV, on reaching Port Blair the fishermen alerted a Chau's friend Alex, a local preacher who informed his family in US.

The Sentinelese people live on their own small forested island and are known to resist all contact with outsiders, often attacking anyone who comes near.

Indian media reports said the American was on an adventure trip to the islands and his body was found by the fishermen. The family immediately contacted the USA embassy in New Delhi for help. The police in the islands arrested the fishermen and questioned the preacher after the United States officials informed them of the incident, reported NDTV.

Once that happens, no more than five of the finalists from the Modern-Era will be eligible to be inducted in 2019. He'll be joined by Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed and Denver Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey , among others.

The authorities have launched search operation through helicopters to look for the Ameican tourist's body.

The 27-year-old meant to interact with the tribal members of the area, and preach Christianity.

Singh said the man was killed on Saturday.

Taking cognisance of the matter, a spokeswoman for the USA consulate in Chennai told Reuters, "We are aware of reports concerning a U.S. citizen in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands". In a major step earlier this year, the government excluded this island and 28 others in the Union Territory from the Restricted Area Permit (RAP) regime till December 31, 2022.

The lifting of RAP meant that foreigners could be allowed to visit these islands without permission from the government.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are a group of islands at the juncture of the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea.
