AirPods 2 leak hints at Bluetooth 5.0 and new biometric sensors

While Apple is yet to formally confirm its AirPods successor, a listing seemingly revealing the AirPods 2 has now surfaced on the Bluetooth SIG website.

Apple actually showed off that feature in September when it introduced the iPhone XS, XS Max, and iPhone XR, but didn't launch the new AirPods with the feature baked in. The patent reveals that the next-gen truly wireless earbuds will include health focused features and hardware.

Spotted by Patently Apple, the Cupertino giant filed a trademark from Europe and Hong Kong on November 2. The trademark for current AirPods cover something called International Class 09, referring to sound recording, audio components, earphones and headphones.

Man killed in third shark attack in weeks on Great Barrier Reef
Police said the latest victim, 33, had been swimming with friends when the attack happened on Monday. Justine Barwick was bitten by a shark at Cid Harbour in the Whitsundays in September.

For those who aren't up-to-date on their legalese, Class 10 refers to devices that are meant to be a general wellness device, which typically includes "health, fitness, exercise, and wellness sensors, monitors, speakers and displays for measuring, displaying, tracking, reporting, monitoring, storing, and transmitting biometric data, heart rate, body movement, and calories burned".

"Games and Playthings" (Class 28), which is a broad category covering everything from "electronic hand-held game units", to computer games, video games and other "electronic amusement apparatus". It will come in handy when you go on a walk or a run or exercise while wearing the AirPods 2.
