Birthright Citizenship 'Will Be Ended One Way Or The Other'

Trump to end right to citizenship for US-born babies

Although Ryan signaled his opposition to an executive order to end birthright citizenship, the speaker did not offer any possible repercussions for Trump if he proceeded with such an order. "Guess what? You don't", Trump said.

"Finally, a president willing to take on this absurd policy of birthright citizenship".

One Republican member of Congress, frequent Trump ally Senator Lindsey Graham, said he would move to introduce legislation "along the same lines" as Trump's order.

Other Republicans were critical.

Meanwhile, he said he also agrees that Trump could end birthright citizenship with an executive order, and that it is mistaken to think that the 14th Amendment "commands" that all babies born in the United States are granted citizenship.

In the run-up to the November 6 congressional elections, Trump has seized on a caravan of migrants from Central America who are trekking through Mexico toward the United States, calling the migrants a threat. On Monday, the United States said it would send over 5,200 troops to help secure the border with Mexico.

"The shrinking caravan of refugees isn't a threat to the country or the constitutional order".

U.S. Sen. Angus King, I-Maine, also responded by saying he was against the president's proposal.

Is Arsenal vs Blackpool on TV tonight?
Arsenal graduate Marc Bola should feature against his former club but Blackpool will be without Donervon Daniels and Armand Gnanduillet.

Why does President Trump not like the policy? The latest CBS News polls show Democrats are likely to take control of the House away from Republicans in next week's midterms.

He added that the phrase "and subject to the jurisdiction thereof" was added to the 14th Amendment to ensure that the child of anyone not subject to American jurisdiction isn't a legal citizen.

"For 150 years, without exception, it has been consistently interpreted to mean whoever is born here is an American citizen". "It is not covered by the 14th Amendment because of the words 'subject to the jurisdiction thereof'".

That phrase traditionally has been interpreted as meaning people who have immunity from U.S. law such as children born to foreign diplomats in the United States.

Some argue that the Supreme Court ruled in favor of children of illegal aliens becoming USA citizens upon birth in the 1886 United States v. Wong Kim Ark case, but others note possible openings left by the case, such as the fact that the distinction in the ruling does not distinguish between illegal and legal presence in the United States, the Congressional Research Service researchers said.

CNN reported that attempting to undo birthright citizenship that way "is certain to set off a legal fight that could potentially wind up in the Supreme Court over his authority to issue Executive Orders with such broad scope". "This case will be settled by the United States Supreme Court!" he wrote.

"This has not been a serious debate other than in academic circles", said Napolitano.
