The blaze comes in the wake of the Thousand Oaks shooting at the Borderline Bar & Grill on Wednesday night that killed 13 people, including the gunman.

Another blaze just west of that area, dubbed the Hill Fire, topped 10,000 acres on Thursday.

A large animal evacuation center was also launched in Malibu.

After making the announcement about his home on Twitter this morning, others were quick to offer their support for Derrickson, including The Haunting of Hill House creator, Mike Flanagan.

The city of Malibu is under a mandatory evacuation order as the Woolsey fire threatens the communities of Calabasas and Malibu, covering as much as 8,000 acres as of Friday morning. Now a brush fire is threatening the surrounding area. No injuries have been reported.

The Woolsey fire started on Thursday afternoon south of the city of Simi Valley, Ventura County officials said. Finally, some flights began at 5:30 a.m.as the wind died down but within 30 minutes, the wind was picking up again as dawn neared and was expected to be strong until 10 p.m. Friday. Our community does NOT KNOW to get out and PCH is now gridlocked for miles.

As a result of the fire jumping the freeway, the City of Malibu was placed under mandatory evacuation orders, an emergency alert stated. "I pray everyone is safe", she wrote. It has burned about 6,100 acres as of Friday morning. There are Red Flag warnings in effect for parts of Ventura and Los Angeles counties.

The fire had crossed USA 101 a few miles east of Thousand Oaks - the site of Wednesday night's bar shooting massacre - and was headed south to the Pacific coast, in the direction of Malibu Creek State Park, the city of Malibu and Pepperdine University, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said. Drought-stricken fuels, Santa Ana wind conditions, low relative humidity, high temperatures: "It's a recipe for fire", said Ventura County Fire Department Assistant Chief Chad Cook, the incident commander for the Hill Fire.

In Southern California, strong Santa Ana winds were fanning two fires, including the Woolsey Fire, which by Friday morning had burned across United States 101 and was heading in the direction of Malibu.

Residents took to social media to share their views of the flames almost consuming the hillside in Newbury Park, which borders Thousands Oaks to the west.

The fire had jumped Highway 101 in several places, including Calabasas and Agoura Hills, as it barrelled south towards coastal Malibu.

Another fire was burning farther west in Ventura County, also moving toward the ocean.

The Hill Fire started at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hill Canyon Road west of Santa Rosa Road, near Camarillo. The Los Angeles County Fire Department tweeted that the fire is headed to the ocean, punctuating the message with the declaration: "Imminent threat!"
