Eddie Jones Turns On English Media Desperate 'For Him To Be Sacked'

Eddie Jones was in a defensive mood when he spoke to the media after England's narrow 12-11 win over the Springboks at Twickenham this afternoon.

Owen Farrell's late penalty snatched a 12-11 victory for injury-hit England in their opening November global as sloppy South Africa were left to rue a lack of ruthlessness at Twickenham.

"I was thinking I hope he doesn't penalise us", Jones said of Farrell's hit on Boks replacement Andre Esterhuizen, one which could have given Handre Pollard another chance to steal victory.

If Farrell is cited for his tackle on Esterhuizen it could leave England without arguably their most influential player.

Jones said: "You can get cited for something you did at a party when you were 15, anything could happen".

England's autumn worldwide series continues next weekend with their first Test in four years against world champions New Zealand, before meetings with Japan and Australia.

"We feel good", said the Saracens fly half. "We'll just wait and see".

Sterling to pen Man City deal extension
The contract, worth a rumoured £300,000 per week, would make Sterling the highest paid English player in the Premier League . A club statement on Friday confirmed: 'No surgery is needed but he is expected to be out for between 5-6 weeks'.

Farrell landed a hard kick in the 73rd minute that ultimately decided the Quilter International at Twickenham.

Pollard missed the conversion, and minutes later Farrell cut South Africa's lead to 8-6 with a well-struck penalty from wide on the left.

However, former Ireland back Luke Fitzgerald, who was forced to retire at 28 with a neck injury, said that under the new interpretation of the tackle law it should have been a "minimum of a penalty.shocking adjudicating" while Sunday Times journalist Stephen Jones described the decision as ludicrous. "We've had three training runs, they've been together for three months". The players deserve enormous credit. If I stay long enough, you're going to get me sacked, so you'll be happy. It was a good Test match game of rugby today.

"New Zealand's a different kettle of fish to the Springboks", Jones added. They want the game to be an athletic contest. We won't be wearing singlets and running shorts out there.

"We missed Faf (de Klerk) as we always do but I thought the two nines didn't do badly and we didn't lose because of inexperience". You'll come in and say 'Fantastic, we've got another bloke we can terrorise'.

In the first meeting between the two heavyweights since 2014, England may also need to create tries to overcome the All Blacks.

Co-captain Dylan Hartley was also delighted with the Alamo defence in the first half, a period during which England failed to once get into the Springbok 22. "He had a 30m run up at me so it was tough, we both popped up off each other and it is hard to keep that under control".
