Facebook launches Lasso to take on TikTok

The app now allows users to cross-post their videos to Stories on Facebook, and the company said it would soon allow users to share their Lasso videos to Instagram Stories as well.

Apparently, nearly half of teenagers in the US say they use Facebook, which is a decrease of 20 percent from 2015, according to Pew. Oh, and don't forget that you "can also add your videos directly to your Facebook story".

"Lasso is a new standalone app for short-form, entertaining videos - from comedy to beauty to fitness and more. We're excited about the potential here, and we'll be gathering feedback from people and creators", Facebook told The Verge. Users can follow creators, search hashtags, discover popular viral video trends and join in by putting your own spin on them. All profiles and videos on Lasso are public. That would be a similar strategy the company used to Facebook Watch, its streaming TV platform, which launched with quite a bit already available for interested viewers right out of the gate.

You can get Lasso, which Facebook rolled out very quietly, starting today.

Death Toll Jumps In California Wildfires
Dubbed Camp Fire, the blaze ravaging the northern part of the state has become the most destructive in its history. Thousands of people have been evacuated from a wildfire in Butte County, California , which is north of Sacramento.

Editor's note: Currently, Lasso is only available in the US.

By comparison, almost 69 per cent United States teenagers use Snapchat, 72 per cent say they use Instagram and 85 per cent say they use YouTube, the report added.

The app, available on the iOS App Store and Google Play, aims to be all the things that Facebook isn't (namely, fun), and comes just a few weeks after word of it oozed out of Menlo Park. However, according to the social network giant Facebook, the all-new application, of course, Lasso has millions of tracks to choose from and accompany the videos.
