Johnson said there was now a huge gulf between the type of Brexit that was promised by his brother Boris, a leading campaigner to leave the European Union, and the deal that May is hammering out in Brussels.

Mr. Johnson is the MP for Orpington, a town in the south eastern county of Kent that threatened to become a "lorry park" in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

Theresa May's Brexit plans have come under intense pressure after a bombshell ministerial resignation amid grave warnings from the DUP that they may withdraw vital Commons support for the proposals. "We will not under any circumstances have a second referendum", Downing Street said.

"We've been hurtling towards a blindfolded Brexit for too long, so it's about time that politicians hand back control to the people of this country by giving them the final say on Brexit - with the option to stay and lead in Europe".

Theresa May's hopes of winning parliament's backing for her Brexit deal have been plunged into fresh doubt after Jo Johnson resigned from the government and accused her of offering MPs a choice between "vassalage and chaos", The Guardian reported. There are several sticking points, however, most notably the status of the border between Northern Ireland, a United Kingdom territory, and the Republic of Ireland.

"It has become increasingly clear to me that the withdrawal agreement, which is being finalised. will be a awful mistake", Jo Johnson wrote in a stinging resignation statement.

Death Toll Jumps In California Wildfires
Dubbed Camp Fire, the blaze ravaging the northern part of the state has become the most destructive in its history. Thousands of people have been evacuated from a wildfire in Butte County, California , which is north of Sacramento.

Britain's armed forces are making contingency plans for how they could support the country if Britain leaves the European Union without a deal, senior British defence officials said on Sunday. The development comes a day after Jo Johnson quit as transport minister. "It does not remotely correspond to the mandate of the people in June 2016".

But she said she believed that another national vote on whether to leave the bloc would just give the same result, with the public asking: 'Didn't you hear us the first time?'

But even if she does get approval from her top team, there is growing concern that the Brexit deal will be voted down when it is put before MPs in December, according to a number of reports this weekend.

Many politicians are unhappy with her compromise plans to maintain the free trade of goods with the European Union, which they say will leave Britain subject to decisions in Brussels without any input.

Leading Tory Brexiter Jacob Rees-Mogg rejected calls for a second referendum, but told the BBC he agreed with criticism of the deal.

Mr Johnson, who backed Remain in the 2016 referendum and is the brother of Boris Johnson, stunned colleagues by walking out of government while Mrs May's plan was still being finalised.
