Google Cloud CEO Leaving Next Year

In a blog post published by the firm, Ms. Greene said she had initially told friends and family that she was planning to run Google Cloud for only two years but stayed for three.

Greene's decision follows some three years steering Alphabet's efforts to catch up with cloud market-leaders Amazon and Microsoft; It's a goal which has remained somewhat elusive, despite her significantly expanding the business, bolstering its salesforce and investing hundreds of millions into data infrastructure.

Under Greene's leadership, Google Cloud has moved from having only two significant customers and a collection of startups to having major Fortune 1,000 enterprises betting their future on Google Cloud.

Reflecting on her time leading Google Cloud, Greene praised staff and commented on the "enormous opportunity ahead" in the cloud space. Google Cloud executives had indicated that they would've liked to own GitHub, but they didn't have signoff from Alphabet's board to write the check, people familiar with the matter said.

"Kurian's background at Oracle will help him understand the market, but Oracle Cloud is not all that successful compared to AWS and Azure", he said.

Kurian, who spent 22 years at Oracle and had been a close confidant of its founder Larry Ellison, resigned in September after struggling to expand its cloud business.

His twin brother, George Kurian, is CEO of California-based Hybrid Cloud data services and data management company NetApp and a member of the Board of Directors.

UCF moves ahead of Ohio State in College Football Playoff rankings
The continuity at the top is just slightly different from a week ago when the top 10 teams were unchanged from the previous week. Rivalry Week is here and divisions will be won and berths clinched for the College Football Playoff in the case of Notre Dame .

This lacking market share has been contributed to Green's focus on equipping Cloud customers with the advanced AI and machine learning capabilities powering Google's other services.

With Kurian, Google will be getting an executive who used to supervise cloud development at Oracle, the world's second-largest software maker. Kurian had a hard time transitioning the company to cloud computing. "So the resources available to Diane may not have always been allocated in the right place, but the resource is there and he has to sit down and see what partners and customer are saying", he added.

"Like Diane Greene, Kurian has serious enterprise chops", Koenig said.

In her blog post, Greene praised her staff for boosting Google's business.

Steve Koenig, a financial analyst following Oracle for Wedbush Securities, said Kurian is better positioned at Google to drive business sales growth than at his former employer.

In Kurian, Google clearly thinks it has the right person to transition them in that direction.
