The United States said on Friday that it welcomes efforts by India and Pakistan to increase people-to-people contact, days after the two neighbouring countries laid foundation stones for a corridor linking two revered gurdwaras on both sides of the border.

As a result of this initiative, members of the Sikh community in India will be able to travel to their revered place of worship in Pakistan without a passport and visa. Situated in Pakistan's Kartarpur town, Gurudwara Darbar Sahib is among the holiest sites for Sikh community. They look happy and content like what the Muslim feel in Mecca and Medina.

Pakistani PM Imran Khan's remarks that "Kashmir was the only issue" to be resolved surprised Indian observers who said Khan could not be unaware of the complex and intractable nature of the problem.

The Indian external affairs minister had also been invited to attend the ceremony by her Pakistani counterpart, but she expressed her inability to undertake the visit due to prior commitments.

"Let's promote love and peace".

"Both India and Pakistan are nuclear armed".

The cricketer-turned-politician, however, did not clear who he referred to in the tweet, if not PM Modi. "We are grateful to Imran Khan for giving us what we have been aspiring for long time", Navjot Singh Sidhu told Al Arabiya English.

Imran Khan said that there have been mistakes on both sides, but it would not be wise to keep playing this blame-game. "If France and Germany can leave their bloody past behind why can't India and Pakistan break the shackles of the past". "Because, as I said, that unless and until Pakistan stops terrorist activities in India, there will be no dialogue and we will not participate in SAARC" Swaraj said. He was just talking about peace.

Many in India construed this statement as Pakistan's desire for a change in Indian leadership.

He said he had made a decision to speak out to help others to seek treatment, fight the stigma surrounding the disease, and because this Saturday marked the 30th anniversary of World AIDS day.

"Sidhu is such a minister who does not listen to his own chief minister".

"Today, where India and Pakistan stand, it has been going on for the last 70 years".

"People of Pakistan love you Sidhu ji". The reference to neither India nor Pakistan being in a position to "win" a nuclear war also raised eyebrows.

The Kartarpur Corridor was opened yesterday after the ground breaking ceremony was conducted successfully but it has courted controversy for both the nations in different ways. "Its a step toward peace which our region needs", Pakistani military spokesman Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor quoted him as saying.

"We could not present Pakistan's case before the world because we did not have a lawyer", he said.

Analysts in Pakistan believe the opening is a significant initiative taken by Pakistan.

He said relations with China were solid and poised to further deepen as the two sides have given new direction to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). There is great potential for doing good by each other as it is for persisting with enmity.

"Whether it is Afghanistan or South Asia regional cooperation, India can not play a positive role given its confrontationist stance towards Pakistan".
