The Iranian official made the remarks during a meeting with senior Italian officials in Rome.

Implicitly threatening EU, the independent MP argued, "Iran-EU ties are facing a serious challenge since their negotiations have led to no tangible results for Tehran, and have even had negative impacts on the mutual relations".

The European Union, Russia and China need to compensate Iran for the withdrawal of the USA from the nuclear accord, Tehran's ambassador to the EU has said.

Despite the withdrawal of the Washington from the Iranian nuclear deal in May and subsequent re-imposition of the USA sanctions on Iran, the other signatories to the deal, namely Britain, China, France, Russia and Germany have announced their commitments to the deal.

If they are honest and concerned about regional security, this is not the path, he said, adding that the "cruel" USA sanctions will only harm the Iranian people.

The first part of the US sanctions on Iran snapped back on August 7, targeting Iran's automotive sector, trade in gold, and other key metals.

Netanyahu has repeatedly proclaimed his innocence, often employing the phrase "There will be nothing because there is nothing". Polls have repeatedly projected that Netanyahu's Likud party would increase its number of seats if early elections are held.

The sanctions have been opposed by other parties to the deal aimed at ending Iran's nuclear drive - Britain, France, Germany, China and Russian Federation - who have vowed to keep the accord alive.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, though, has accused the USA of bullying, and says those most likely to be affected by the new measures are ordinary Iranians.

USA officials have already said the sanctions would be meant to bring down Iran's oil exports to zero.

Trump's attitude has caused the United States to lose credibility, according to the deputy foreign minister, who said no one will trust a government that fails to comply with commitments reached by the preceding administration.

It now sells its crude on an anonymous Energy Exchange platform to customers whose identity will remain secret.According to the National Security Adviser John Bolton, more sanctions and stricter enforcement are on their way.

"European banks and European companies know that we will vigorously enforce sanctions against this brutal and violent regime", he said in a telephone briefing with reporters.
