The ATP officially announced the creation of a new team competition, similar to the Davis Cup, called the ATP Cup.

16 de noviembre de 2018, 15:32London, Nov 16 (Prensa Latina) The Swiss professional tennis player Roger Federer, victor of 20 Grand Slam titles, on Friday supported the possibility of playing the Davis Cup in the first week of the year. Players qualify for the tournament through their ATP ranking.

The Australian Open is on the move pushed back by a week to accomodate a new ATP Cup.

The tournament is a recreation of the old ATP World Team Cup, which ended in 2012 after 35 years.

Teams from 24 countries will feature in the ATP Cup, which will be held at the start of the season across 10 days in Australia.

Carried by that momentum from the opening set, Djokovic did everything right in set number two as well and Cilic couldn't follow that pace, getting broken in games five and seven to lose five straight games and send Novak into the semis with a ideal 3-0 score, standing as the favorite against Kevin Anderson there as well. Federer was upbeat about the new event and said the Davis Cup would not suffer.

"We find ourselves in this kind of particular circumstances and situations that we have to deal with right now".

"Representing our country is something that is a great privilege for all of us, we dream of getting the colours of our country on our tracksuits and going out on court and playing for, in my case, Serbia, rather than for myself", he said.

"Whether I think that's good for our sport?" Whether I think that's good for our sport, I honestly don't think it's good for the sport.

The marks-visible only under ultraviolet light-were still there when Lanmei employees checked into the same rooms the next day. The video clip was apparently shot by hidden cameras set up in hotel bathrooms and titled "The Secret of the Cups".

"More job opportunities for players, yes".

"I think it's not sustainable".

But earlier in the week, Djokovic did voice his concerns over the closeness of the two competitions, believing the result could be "two average events".

Complicating the issue further, Djokovic also played in this year's edition of the Laver Cup, a tournament created by Roger Federer and his management team that features two teams made up of invited top players.

"This is never an attempt to damage the Davis Cup, but we have got to look forward", Chris Kermode, ATP President exclusively told CNBC. It doesn't have the points.

Zverev missed out on a semifinal berth on his debut at the season-ender previous year and will need to beat John Isner on Friday to have a chance of sticking around for the weekend. I was part of it this year.

"Obviously Lendl is one of the biggest legends of our sport. That was a very unique experience". On the other hand, Cilic fought well in the opening set (probably the best one we saw this week) even though he had no chance of reaching the semis, wasting a set point at 6-5 before fading from the court in the rest of the match to end his season and get some well-deserved rest before the start of 2019.

"From what I've heard from conversations with people from all of the sides, different sides in this sport, they all want to have one event because it's over-saturated with different cups, different events".
