Nuggets add WNBA star Sue Bird to front office

The Denver Nuggets have added current WNBA Champion Sue Bird to their front office staff as Basketball Operation Associate, President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly announced today.

"I'm really excited to join the Denver Nuggets organization", Bird said in a statement released by the Storm. "Her resume certainly speaks for itself and as a still active player she will offer an extremely unique perspective".

Bird has played in the WNBA for 16 seasons, acquiring a long list of accolades.

Not long after Bird led the Seattle Storm past the Washington Mystics in the WNBA finals, Connelly reached out to her through a mutual friend - longtime National Basketball Association forward Caron Butler, a contemporary of Bird's at the University of CT who played for Connelly with the Wizards before Connelly's move to Denver. Bird also alluded to the fact that she's still under contract with the team.

The 38-year-old is an 11-time WNBA All-Star, and ranks first in the WNBA in career games, career minutes played and in assists.

Bird met with the Nuggets organization early last month in Denver as rumors began to swirl.

Bird was originally the Storm's No. 1 overall pick in the 2002 WNBA Draft after a stellar collegiate career at CT. Jenny Boucek was an assistant for the Sacramento Kings and now with the Dallas Mavericks and Kristi Toliver was added to the Washington Wizards staff earlier this fall. The Storm was rebuilding. Obviously, that was me for the Storm. That's kind of how I view the Nuggets.
