Beale And Ashley-Cooper Dropped By Australia After Hotel Incident Post Wales Defeat

Australia coach Michael Cheika insists the breach of discipline that led to Adam Ashley-Cooper and Kurtley Beale being dropped for Sunday's (AEDT) Test against England was only a minor one, but nevertheless worthy of sanction.

Beale and Ashley-Cooper, who have a combined 200 caps, invited women to their hotel room after losing to Wales 9-6 on November 10 in Cardiff. Per rugby.com.au, the guests were Ashley-Cooper's sister-in-law and two friends but other senior players deemed it a breach. Ashley-Cooper played his first test in more than two years last weekend against Italy, and Beale was a replacement.

As captain, Hooper was part of a leadership group that told Cheika what occurred and Castle tipped her hat to the back-rower for orchestrating a line-in-the-sand moment for a team clearly hell-bent on enforcing strict behavioural standards.

"I know that's your mentality to think everything is a cover-up, but it's not, I want to be really clear".

Rugby Australia CEO Raelene Castle backed Michael Cheika's decision to ban the pair for Saturday's 37-18 defeat by England.

Cheika was forced to defend the team's unity after Saturday's loss to England, during which man-of-the-match Kyle Sinckler mercilessly sledged the Wallabies, calling them "f--ing snitches".

Pakistan's Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Faisal told reporters in Islamabad that it is too early to know who is responsible. Authorities said the dead civilians were a father and a son who were picking up their visas for China.

Cheika had tried to keep the situation under wraps and said on Thursday Beale had been left out due to form reasons.

"They've let their teammates down in this instance, for sure, and that's where it should lay but I understand that's not the world we live in anymore".

"On the field this year we have been inconsistent because we have taken a shortcut here or there".

Beale and Ashley-Cooper have 83 and 117 caps respectively and Hooper said approaching Cheika about the situation was one of the most hard moments of his captaincy. "There's no doubt one of his biggest strengths is loyalty and we need to make sure that we've got the best team together but we'll wait and see what the review process throws up".

Australia's player leadership group reported the matter to Cheika this week and he took the decision to leave both players out for his side's final Test of 2018.

The Wallabies have also been hit by the late withdrawal of back row forward David Pocock through injury for the match at Twickenham.
