A Russian fighter jet intercepted a U.S. Navy plane in an "unsafe encounter" over the Black Sea, putting the plane's pilot and crew at risk, the Navy said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Navy announced that a U.S. reconnaissance aircraft was intercepted earlier on the day by a Russian fighter jet while flying in global airspace over the Black Sea.

It was not clear how close the Russian aircraft had come to the American plane. And in June past year, an Su-27 closed in on the wing of a U.S. RC-135U reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea at high speed, U.S. European Command said at the time.

"This interaction was determined to be unsafe due to the SU-27 conducting a high speed pass directly in front of the mission aircraft, which put our pilots and crew at risk".

Earlier, the US Navy slammed Russian Federation for the actions of the Su-27 jet that intercepted the US EP-3 Aries spy plane in a manner that was deemed unsafe.

'The crew of the EP-3 reported turbulence following the first interaction, and vibrations from the second'. "The duration of the intercept was approximately 25 minutes".

Big, fat, winning lottery ticket almost lost in a pickup truck
The win was a shock to the single mum, who struggled to persuade her three daughters and other relatives that it was for real. More than 12,000 players in SC hold tickets for prizes ranging from $4 up to $150,000, lottery officials say.

The Russian jet approached and identified the aircraft as a U.S. Navy EP-3E Aries spy plane, it said.

The Su-27 wouldn't need to go all out with afterburners to pass the propeller-driven EP-3, but the burners would likely exacerbate turbulence felt by the Navy crew.

The Russian jet came within about 20 feet of the U.S. aircraft, one official said, adding that the encounter lasted about nine minutes.

At least 17 foreign planes and UAVs flew spy missions near Russia's borders in just a week, the Defense Ministry said on November 1.

United States officials said Russia's military could exercise within global airspace, but the pilot's behaviour was wrong.

Russia described the January maneuver as legal and said it was escorting the Navy plane, according to a Russian Defense Ministry statement shortly afterward. Russia's Su-27 handles both air-to-air combat and serves in a bomber role.
