Saudi Exhibition Off Due To Nadal Injury - Djokovic

Novak Djokovic answering questions from the press

Nadal and Djokovic had reportedly signed up to the Saudi exhibition match around a year ago, although the event came under increasing scrutiny in light of Khashoggi's death. Both players had been criticized for not calling off the match in the wake of the premeditated killing of Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi Arabian journalist and government critic who was murdered at the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul last month.

Speaking ahead of the Nitto ATP Finals at London's O2 Arena on Friday, Djokovic simply replied "it's not happening" when asked about the match, before confirming it was due to Nadal's recent ankle surgery.

Djokovic and Nadal, now the top two players in the ATP world rankings, were set to play at the Sports Hall in King Abdullah Sports City, a subset of Jeddah.

"Nadal's recovery time contradicts the now scheduled timing of the tournament", GSA said in a statement, promising an announcement of new dates in due course and wishing Nadal a speedy recovery.

The Public Infrastructure Minister said the United States' National Transportation Safety Board has been informed. Fly Jamaica said the airline is now making arrangements to fly the plane's passengers out of Guyana.

In a press release, the GSA said it will announce the new dates of the championship in due course and added that it wishes the tennis champion a fast recovery.

The Spaniard was due to return at the Paris Masters last week but picked up a stomach injury, forcing him out of the ATP Finals.

"It was a complicated year, very good at the tennis level when I was able to play and at the same time very bad as far as injuries are concerned", Nadal said in a statement earlier this week. And my team is talking to them, to analyse the things.

"It is true that we had detected it for a long time and from time to time it bothered me". So we are looking about how evolves the situation and I hope the things will clarify as soon as possible'. "We have to get more information on what's happening so we can make a rational decision whether it's good to go or not".
