"He runs a financial consultancy business and he consults on a number of companies and one of those is Bosasa, where he provides services of entrepreneurship, particularly on the procurement process, advising both local and global companies", was how Ramaphosa had responded to Maimane's question.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will pay back 500,000 rand ($35,000) donated to his campaign fund by a firm with links to his son after admitting he misled parliament, an official said.

Ramaphosa's campaign team says he did not have a record of donors, although he was asked on occasion to attend dinners with potential donors.

The integrity committee, an internal ANC structure led by party veterans, has been set up to ensure that its cadres accused of corrupt practices or for having brought the organisation into disrepute, account for their actions.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane.

Just this month, he described the corruption plaguing South Africa as an "amoeba" with "tentacles all over". Ramaphosa recently corrected a statement he made regarding money received from BOSASA.

However Maimane said he was not convinced by Ramaphosa's explanation.

"It's highly unethical that the president of a country has financially benefited from a company and individuals linked to a company that has done not only business but lucrative business with the state".

The DA calls for an inquiry to investigate the full extent of Bosasa's influence on the government, the payments made by Bosasa to politicians or their families and the full involvement of the President and his family to this scandal.
