Sterling to pen Man City deal extension

Raheem Sterling has verbally agreed a new five-year contract with Manchester City, sources have told ESPN FC.

Just think of the grievous reaction in the Daily Mail newsroom.

Sterling has come on leaps and bounds under the tutelage of manager Pep Guardiola, but recently talk has grown over his future, with his existing deal set to expire in 2020. However, it looks like City have returned to the table with an offer that is far too hefty to spurn.

The contract, worth a rumoured £300,000 per week, would make Sterling the highest paid English player in the Premier League.

Not bad for a lad of 23.

They left the United Kingdom hours after beating Cardiff City 1-0 in their first match since the disaster last Saturday. A planned match against Southampton on Tuesday was postponed.

According to SportMail, Sterling's improved wages will see him become one of City's top earners on £300,000-per-week, and the best paid English footballer.

A club statement on Friday confirmed: 'No surgery is needed but he is expected to be out for between 5-6 weeks'.

In 11 total appearances this season across all competitions, Sterling has five goals.

Capped 46 times by England including at this past summer's World Cup where the Three Lions finished fourth, Sterling scored 18 times in the league last season as City captured the Premier League crown.

The in-form forward drove into training at the Etihad Campus in a modified G-series Mercedes having watched on from the bench as Pep Guardiola's side defeated Fulham 2-0 in the Carabao Cup on Thursday.
