Newly arrived troops on the country's southern border are working with US Customs and Border Patrol officers to lay about 1,000 feet of fencing along the river according to the Defense Department.

President Trump, speaking at a campaign rally in Montana on Saturday, referred to the barbed wire as "beautiful" and said that "barbed wire, used properly, can be a attractive sight". "And I noticed all that attractive barbed wire going up today". He also assured the crowd that the troops would block the caravan from entering United States territory.
