Volkswagen Tarok pick-up concept unveiled in Brazil

As with the technical layout, the Tarok Concept has been designed from scratch down to the very last millimetre.

Volkswagen has succeeded in merging the practical advantages of the Tarok Concept with a lifestyle-oriented design. Other exterior styling elements include a front end inspired by the Atlas Tanoak, sunroof, LED lighting, roof bar and sculpted sides.

One important design feature in the five-seater Tarok Concept is its variable loading area concept.

If you don't remember the Fun, you need educating; it was a marvellously daft bright yellow pick-up, whose back seats that slid out into the rear deck when you wanted to use them, but which folded back away when you had large loads to carry.

While there is no news of the Volkswagen Tarok making it our shores, we think it could be VW's contender in the steadily growing lifestyle pickup segment in India that's now dominated by the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross.

Inside, you'll find a colour-coded crossbar in Cypress Metallic that stretches across the entire facia and surrounds a glass-covered infotainment system, digital air-conditioning controls and digital cockpit.

Under the bonnet the Tarok concept features a transversely-mounted 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine making 110kW of power. The TSI engine in the Tarok Concept is also combined with a 6-speed automatic gearbox and permanent 4MOTION all-wheel drive. If you like what you see here, you'll be pleased to know that Volkswagen has said it would make "barely any changes" to the Tarok's design from concept to series production.

Volkswagen has yet to confirm when the Tarok will go on sale in Brazil, or even if other markets will get the pick-up. Production models, though, will start out with a 2,0-litre turbodiesel unit also worth 110 kW.
