The Toronto Raptors have staked their claim as a favourite to come out of the Eastern Conference with a superb start to the National Basketball Association season.

"Right now they're the best, and I expect them to be there throughout the whole season", Thompson told reporters in Oakland on Monday when asked about the Raptors.

The Raptors have been good in previous regular seasons, but the play of star forward Kawhi Leonard and guard Kyle Lowry and the depth of quality on the roster suggests this is a team built for the playoffs. Iguodala will turn 35 this season, so every knew his career was going to come to an end some time in the next few seasons.

Is that the way you want to knock off a team that has won three of the last four National Basketball Association championships?

The Warriors clearly have the edge in superstar mojo with an enviable wealth of big-name players on their roster.

Warriors sharpshooter Klay Thompson says the Warriors could potentially meet the Raptors in the NBA Finals in June, per 247Sports' Michael Kaskey-Blomain.

Through all of that, one of the most steadfast Warriors has been flying under the radar.

The stifling defense and improved offense by the Raptors should have the Warriors on edge on Thursday night, especially if this is a sneak-peek of an NBA Finals matchup. Ibaka and Valanciunas are combining to give Toronto elite-level production at centre. The Toronto Raptors will likely mount a charge and make a big run, whether Golden State is leading or trailing. Kevin Durant and Draymond Green got in an argument both on the court and in the locker room after they lost to the Clippers, which resulted in a lengthy dissection of both their relationship and Durant's future with the team.

The Warriors have beat the Raptors in eight straight meetings dating back to 2014, including four in Toronto and 18 of the past 23.

However, Toronto haven't defeated Golden State since March 4, 2014 and would love to bring their current eight game losing streak against the Warriors to an end.

"People are trying to do what they do, but nobody does it like them", Raptors head coach Nick Nurse said, elaborating on Golden State's ability to hit a flurry of deep three-pointers to bury opponents in a hole most can't overcome. Golden State is 18th with a defensive rating of 109.
