Wikileaks founder Julian Assange charged in United States, court document accidentally reveals

"That was not the intended name for this filing".

Assange, who has been holed up in Ecuador's embassy in London since seeking asylum in 2012, is considered a wanted man by USA law enforcement agencies after his controversial publication of classified diplomatic cables and other secret U.S. government documents.

Assange and WikiLeaks are at the center of the special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.

In recent days, speculation has mounted that he will charge certain individuals in connection with WikiLeaks' activities during the election, including the longtime GOP strategist Roger Stone and the far-right conspiracy theorist Jerome Corsi.

In July, his office charged 12 Russian military spies with conspiring to hack DNC computers, steal the organisation's data and publish the files in an effort to disrupt the election and referred in an indictment to WikiLeaks, described only as "Organisation 1", as the platform the Russians used to release the stolen emails.

A spokesman for the special counsel's office declined to comment.

Assange is concerned that if he leaves the embassy the United States may also seek to extradite him on espionage charges. The possibility of charging the whistleblower with violating the Espionage Act has come up in discussions, WSJ notes. The 47-year-old fears that, once British authorities detain him, he will immediately be extradited to the U.S. where he is likely to face serious charges over his role at WikiLeaks.

Oxford Dictionaries reveal word of the year is TOXIC
We have seen this being used on social media and they might win the word of the year probably next year, who knows. The data shows that, after "chemical", "masculinity" is the most-used word in conjunction with toxic this year.

Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, though, had taken a more aggressive stance and vowed to crackdown on all government leaks.

Assange's lawyer Barry Pollack, however, told the WSJ that he had "heard nothing from authorities suggesting that a criminal case against Mr. Assange is imminent".

Prosecuting someone for publishing truthful information would set a bad and risky precedent.

A USA federal court document asking a judge to seal documents in a criminal case unrelated to Mr Assange inadvertently revealed the charges against the Australian. Seitu Sulayman Kokayi was charged enticing a teenage girl to have sex with him. He was detained, according to a court filing, because he "has a substantial interest in terrorist acts" that may be related to convictions against his father-in-law.

The case had been sealed until early September, though by itself it attracted little notice.

Wikileaks tweeted the revelation was an "apparent cut-and-paste error".

Over the past year, prosecutors are said to have discussed a variety of charges they could bring against Assange and are reportedly optimistic that they could get Assange, who is now seeking asylum at the Ecuadorean Embassy in London, into a U.S. court. He initially entered the embassy to avoid extradition for a rape charge in Sweden. He has argued that case was a pretext for what he predicted would be his arrest and extradition to the US.
