Baraboo School District investigating boys' apparent Nazi salute

"I said to them, 'OK, boys, you're going to say goodbye to your parents, so wave", photographer Peter Gust says, in this clip from "Good Morning America".

Gust posted the photo on his website, Wheels Memories, after he took the pre-prom shot on the steps of the Sauk County Courthouse in Baraboo in May.

In a Twitter post Monday, Mueller added: "The photo of students posted to #BarabooProud is not reflective of the educational values and beliefs of the School District of Baraboo".

Gust, a former social studies teacher who majored in history in college, defended the photo, saying he didn't tell the boys to salute anything. He blasted CNN for obscuring students' faces in the Nazi salute photo. The photographer told the local Madison364 publication that he had asked the group of almost 50 boys to "give me a high sign, a wave that you're saying goodbye to your parents".

A photographer and group of high school boys are at the center of a firestorm of controversy this week after a photo surfaced showing the group doing the Nazi salute.

The tweet has since been taken down, but police and school officials promised to investigate. "The photographer said to raise your hand, but he didn't say a specific way".

Gust deleted the photo from his website and replaced it with a text post saying that the photo had been deleted "due to the malevolent behavior on the part of some in society".

"The school district is investigating this situation and is working with parents, staff and local authorities", Mueller said in the statement.

Electric scooter giant recalls more scooters amid fears of them breaking apart
Two more companies, Wave and Onzo, are set to launch another 1500 e-scooters before the end of the month. Meanwhile, a bylaw might need to be changed to allow electric scooters to travel in cycle lanes.

"We hope these students understand what a mistake this was, and we hope that they will join work against the hateful ideology that they appeared to treat so casually in the photo".

"I left school because I was not having it", he added.

The Auschwitz Memorial Twitter page was among groups that have criticized the photo, with its smiling, well-dressed teenagers apparently making a gesture of hate.

'It is too bad that there are those in society who can and do take the time to be jerks; knowingly and willingly to be jerks!

The Baraboo Police Department said it was assisting with the district's investigation. He concluded: "I truly and firmly believe we need to make a change to this disgusting act, it needs to stop". Kevin Vodak, the board's president, said the photo "deeply disappointed me, shamed, appalled and angered me". "Auschwitz with its gas chambers was at the very end of the long process of normalizing and accommodating hatred", the tweet said.

The photos have since been removed, the photo agency wrote on its site in a message that blames "jerks" and online negativity. "I felt unsafe because I go to school with them, I don't believe in what they represented and the symbol they shared ... they knew it was wrong, but they still did it".

"I attend BHS, these classmates have bullied me since entering middle school", Blue continued, "I have struggled with it my entire life and nothing has changed. nothing has been done and my question is".

On Monday evening, approximately 100 people rallied in front of the Baraboo court house where the photo was taken to promote positivity in the city.
