Former President Barack Obama shared a list of books, films, and songs he enjoyed in 2018 on Friday, continuing a tradition that began during his presidency and expanded after leaving office past year - when the former president understandably had a bit more free time on his hands. The former president shared the lists on Friday (Dec. 28), featuring Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Black Panther, and more.

In the movies category, the science fiction horror film Annihilation, starring Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Gina Rodriguez, was Obama's No 1 choice, with the superhero blockbuster Black Panther coming in at No 2 and and Spike Lee's latest offering, BlacKkKlansman, rounding out the top three.

While Obama didn't feature Paste's No. 1 song of 2018, Childish Gambino's "This Is America", his favorite songs list includes standouts like Janelle Monáe's "Make Me Feel" (No. 11 on Paste's list), The Carters' "Apeshit" and Courtney Barnett's "Need a Little Time". He mentioned The Carters' song "Apes*t", which appeared on their album Everything Is Love.

Alongside pictures of the list, Obama wrote: "As 2018 draws to a close, l'm continuing a favorite tradition of mine and sharing my year-end lists".

"It also gives me a chance to highlight talented authors, artists, and storytellers - some who are household names and others who you may not have heard of before", he continued.

Next time you're at a smoky DIY show, surrounded by skinny dudes in Vans and flannel clutching Budweisers, take a careful look around-one of them might be Obama.

As 2018 draws to a close, I'm continuing a favorite tradition of mine and sharing my year-end lists. Writing on Facebook, Obama said the book was "obviously my favorite!"Obama's reading list includes a number of titles that comment on the fractious political moment, such as Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt's "How Democracies Die" and "The World as It Is", Ben Rhodes' memoir about working for the 44th president".
