According to the Coconino County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the Horseshoe Bend Overlook for reports of a missing 14-year-old girl on Monday.

Authorities say a California girl visiting Arizona has died from what appears to be an accidental fall.

Crews were unable to continue the search that night and returned to recover the body the next day.

Arizona's Department of Public Safety's air rescue unit spotted the girl's body about 700 feet below the overlook just a few hours after she was reported missing.

Officials say initial investigations point to an accidental fall from the overlook, though the incident is still now under investigation.

Cops believe the teen, who hasn't yet been publicly identified, accidentally fell from the scenic overlook, which offers view of the Colorado River flowing below red cliffs near the Arizona-Utah border.

Initial investigation indicates an accidental fall; however, the incident is still under investigation and pending review by the Medical Examiner's Office.
