"The Kennedy Center Honors recognizes exceptional artists who have made enduring and indelible marks on our culture", Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein said in a press release.

The Kennedy Center's 41st annual Kennedy Center Honors will air tonight, paying tribute to the best and brightest in the arts community and beyond. The honors gala took place in Washington, D.C., earlier this month but will air tonight (Wednesday, December 26) on CBS at 8 p.m. ET. The icon could be seen shedding a tear while watching Lambert sing.

Esparanza Spalding appeared to perform Shorter's "Endangered Species" and "Elegant People", and Cyndi Lauper and Adam Lambert did Cher's "I Got You Babe".

The Oscar victor appeared visibly emotional, however, after Adam Lambert took the stage to perform her 1998 smash, "Believe".

Irving tied the game at 108 on his shot with 20.9 seconds left and Redick missed at the buzzer, forcing overtime. The call allowed JJ Redick a trip to the free throw line and increase the lead to five points for Philadelphia.

Cher was stunned again, but this time for a completely different reason.

Viewers noticed that Cher shouted to Lauper, "You told me you were going to Los Angeles!". "I lied", the star replied. While there was no shortage of stellar performances, Adam Lambert stole the show.

Backed by a full orchestra, Lambert belted out the hit dance track, transforming it into an emotional ballad, closing out the performance with one of his classic high notes.

The Cher Show, a musical based on Cher's life and career recently opened on Broadway to rave reviews and is expected to be followed up with a biopic and memoir in the near future.
