And despite Brown giving up Fiji the monkey earlier this year because of the controversy, TMZ is reporting that he's still been charged with two counts of having a restricted species without a permit.

Monkeys shouldn't be pets, says the city of Los Angeles. Investigators got a search warrant, but CB agreed to surrender the animal before his home was raided.

He posted a video on social media of his young daughter, Royalty, 3, with the monkey and copped criticism from fans.

The clip shows the little girl holding her new pet, who's wrapped in a white blanket and wearing a diaper. According to TMZ, the R&B star was under investigation by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Last week, Allen was promoted to the active roster as a backup following the team shutting down Cam Newton . In a corresponding move, the Panthers signed Garrett Gilbert to back up Allen.

Chris Brown could face up to six months in jail as a result of some online monkey business.

Before the situation could get out of control, Brown gave up the monkey.

Brown will be formally charged in a United States court on 6 February, after which he will be expected to issue a plea.

A request for comment from Brown's lawyer wasn't immediately returned.
