Chris Dawson arrested and to be extradited to NSW

FORMER teacher Chris Dawson has been refused bail and will be extradited to NSW over the alleged murder of his wife Lynette nearly 37 years ago.

Speaking on the arrest, Detective Chief Inspector Chris Olen said: "A 70-year-old man has been arrested this morning shortly before 8 o'clock in relation to the murder of Lyn Dawson".

"Statements from witnesses helped us tie pieces of the puzzle together".

However, prosecutors have previously said there was insufficient evidence to lay charges.

"Earlier this week, the ODPP provided advice to police, and following further inquiries, detectives applied for an arrest warrant before travelling to Queensland".

"The resolve of the Unsolved Homicide Unit detectives shows that they will continue to search for the truth, no matter how many years may pass".

Mr Fuller said finding Ms Dawson's remains was "not crucial to finalising the matter", however investigators had not given up hope of doing so.
