As people are getting off of work, many of them have headed to the mall for some last-minute gifts.

"Small businesses are having to find new ways to attract and retain customers in what are undoubtedly challenging times, but in the last year the number of registered businesses across the area bucked the national trend and grew for the fifth consecutive year". And if you still have to come to the mall, be prepared to have to fight for a parking spot and to wait in line.

"It's been really constant all day", said Riniker.

Lisa Simone, on the other hand, said she did most of her shopping during Black Friday.

"We did the weekend line previous year, and it wrapped around about 3 different times", Conner stated.

However, today may have been the calm before the storm.

Christmas shopping can be hectic and sometimes even stressful.

"You get a better taste of what you're going to see and what's the quality of the things you're going to get", said Ponce. It will also narrow down the stores that you need to go into.

"Last-minute shoppers are looking forward to the weekend this year to finalize their shopping plans before the big day", Phil Rist, executive vice president of strategyy for Prosper Insights, said in a statement.

Numerous last-minute purchases will be in physical stores, which have struggled after consumer shopping habits shifted some sales online.

Across the country, Saturday shoppers and retailers took part in "Super Saturday", the last Saturday before Christmas which is now considered the busiest shopping day of the year.

National figures show festive retail trade has been the worst since the recession of 2008 but Fair City shops are reporting a more optimistic outlook and with just three days left, tills are set to ring out throughout the city centre.
